From the desk of Dr. Cristy L. Greaves, Principal of H.O. Brittingham Elementary
Absolutely, the best part of my job as Principal of HOB continues to be our wonderful students! Every day I know we are making a difference for all students and they continue to amaze us in so many ways. It is also great living in Milton! Our school is so important to our community and many locals who call Milton and Lincoln home also attended H.O. Brittingham Elementary when they were students! Many of our HOB staff members, parents and grandparents were once HOB students---all the way back to 1965 when HOB first opened its doors to our community!
Our HOB students continue to demonstrate they are learning and achieving at increasingly high levels in meeting our Delaware Standards! In fact, HOB was recently named in the “Teach Delaware Survey” as one of the best schools in which to teach and to learn! We continue to achieve our goals by working together with all HOB stakeholders to meet our students’ needs. Our exceptional HOB staff never waivers in their efforts to ensure each of our students obtains the very best education! We are excited and look forward to working together with staff, our families and the community for the benefit of the students we serve together. Our theme for the 2013-2014 school year reflects our school’s Mission, Vision, Goals and Values Statement: Goals: “Focusing on What Matters Most!” We still have much work to do to ensure that all students are meeting increasingly rigorous DE standards. I am committed to ensuring we work as a team so “learning for all” remains our top priority at H.O. Brittingham!
I also remain a passionate advocate for students, staff and families as we work together for students’ educational success and continuous improvement in a positive, supportive school environment where “all decisions are made in the best interest of the child.” I will continue to have an “open door” policy to enable us to have strong relationships with mutual trust and benefits.
As a lifelong learner, I continue to support our profession and further my professional growth as the Vice Chair of the Professional Standards Board, and a member of the Boards of DASP (Delaware Association of School Principals) and DASA (Delaware Association of School Administrators). I continue to participate on many workgroups within the Cape school district, the Delaware Department of Education, DASL (Delaware Academy of School Leadership), and local universities and colleges, to seek to improve, increase and enhance our student and staff performance. I am on our Cape Readiness Team for Early Learning as well as the Technology Team.
I have been a teacher and administrator at all levels from pre K through the Master’s program in urban, suburban and rural settings over the past 36 years. I obtained my BS from the University of Maryland in Education; a Master of Education from Bowie State University in Educational Administration and Supervision and a Doctor of Education from Wilmington University in Educational Leadership and Innovation. I live in Milton with my husband, Chuck, and have 3 lovely daughters, the youngest of which is a Preschool teacher! We also have 2 barn cats (Big Mama and Bootsy) and our dog, Riley, who we adopted from the SPCA. I look forward to this school year and even more success for our students, staff and families at H.O. Brittingham as we build important relationships and work together as a team for our students’ success!
